A fourth person has been arrested in connection with the death of Syrian born anti-Assad preacher Abdul Hadi Arwani in west London earlier this month.

London’s Metropolitan Police said a 36-year-old man was arrested on Friday on suspicion of conspiracy to murder but the arrest was only made public today, after he was released on bail.

Another man, Leslie Cooper, 36, appeared at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, charged with Arwani’s murder.

A 61-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and was further arrested on Wednesday along with a 53-year-old on suspicion of preparing acts of terrorism.

Arwani, a noted of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria and iman at the nearby An Noor mosque from 2005 to 2011, was found dead in his car with gunshot wounds in Wembley on April 7th.

Counter terrorism officers are investigating claims the death was linked to a long running battle for control of the mosque, the Mirror reports.

They searched the home of a director of the An Noor mosque on Tuesday.
