A 15-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a newborn baby was found dead in Herefordshire.

West Mercia Police officers were called to reports of concern for a baby's welfare at a house in Ross-on-Wye at 8.40am on Sunday, 24 March.

Superintendent Sue Thomas, police commander for Herefordshire, said: “On attendance, the body of a baby was discovered.

“The death is being treated as suspicious and investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.”

The arrested teenager, who is from Ross-on-Wye, has been released on bail as detectives investigate.

The baby's next of kin and the area's coroner have been informed of the infant's death.
