A man who died in a drive-by shooting in the Ladywood area of Birmingham has been named as Dante Mullings.

The 23-year-old was found with fatal injuries in St Vincent Street West around 5pm on Tuesday after shots were fired at a car.

In a statement, Mr Mullings’ relatives said: “Our family, friends and all who knew Dante are absolutely broken beyond belief.

“Dante was the epitome of kind, caring and thoughtful. The tributes that we have heard are testament of this. Dante will be terribly missed. Not only is his murder a huge loss to our family but also a considerable loss to the community.”

A murder investigation was launched by West Midlands Police after Tuesday’s shooting. It is believed that the 23-year-old and two other men were in a silver Vauxhall Corsa when shots were fired from an oncoming car.

The three men managed to exit the car and attempted to flee a short distance down the road, but Mr Mullings collapsed as a result of his injuries.

Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, he was pronounced dead at the scene and a post mortem examination revealed he died of a gun shot wound.

A 19-year-old man remains in hospital being treated for injuries that are not believed to be life-changing. A 20-year-old man was taken to hospital and has since been discharged.

Police inquiries are ongoing and detectives urged people to get in touch with any information, dash-cam footage or mobile video related to the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Mallett from force CID, said: “We are directly appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dash cam or mobile phone footage to come forward, even if it was not directly of the incident, this could help us piece together the circumstances leading to this tragic death.

“We want to know what happened and why, and anyone with any information, no matter how insignificant you believe this to be, should come forward.”
