An 11-year-old boy who is believed to have stolen a car a day for the past two years has been arrested again, hours after his latest court appearance.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was remanded in local authority care after his 152nd court appearance on Monday because he was part of a group of juveniles who forced their way into a house, stole some keys and drove off in a family car.

He was arrested again on Monday night for burglary and theft of a vehicle. He hasbeen placed in alternative local authority care. The boy cannot be locked up because he is under 12.

He usually lives with his mother in Cardiff and, at 4ft 6in, he is reportedly too short to see out of the front window when he is sitting in the driver's seat.

The boy – described in court by his solicitor as a "bit of a scamp" – had been ordered to observe a curfew between 7pm and 8am and not get into a car without an adult's permission.
