A 16-year-old boy has been charged with raping a woman in her 40s as she walked along a wooded path in Surrey.

The alleged attack happened in broad daylight shortly before 3pm on Friday near the Pennyhill Park Hotel in Bagshot.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at South West Surrey Magistrates’ Court, in Guildford, on Tuesday.

Surrey Police are continuing to appeal for anyone who was in the area, near Esher Road, around the time of the alleged offence to come forward.

A spokesman said the force encouraged any victims of sexual assault or abuse to contact them, adding that specially trained officers will support them through the judicial process.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting reference 4514005338, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
