Bushy Park attack: Police release e-fit of suspect after woman is sexually assaulted while sunbathing in south London

21-year-old woman had fallen asleep with headphones

Police have released an e-fit of a man they suspect of sexually assaulting a 21-year-old woman while she sunbathed in a London park.

Officers were called to the scene at around 11.45am last Thursday after the woman reported being assaulted in Bushy Park, near Hampton Court Palace in Richmond-Upon Thames.

A police spokesman said the woman had fallen asleep with headphones on while sunbathing and had been awoken by the attack, which took place close to the park’s Teddington Lane Gate lodge.

The man is believed to have made off towards the Sandy Lane Gate exit after the assault. He is described as being in his late 20s and wearing a white t-shirt with dark tracksuit bottoms.

Police presence has been stepped up in the area following the attack with members of the public advised to call 999 if they see anyone acting suspiciously.

Detective Inspector Andy Dunn, the investigating officer, said: "Something which may seem unimportant on its own, may be crucial to the investigation so please do come forward no matter how insignificant you think the information might be."
