Detectives question man on suspicion of murdering a mother and nine-month-old baby

Detectives are continuing to question a man on suspicion of murdering a mother and her nine-month-old baby.

The victims, named locally as Yvonne Walsh, 25, and her son Harry, were found dead at a house in Billesley, Birmingham, yesterday morning.

A police cordon remained in place today at the entrance to Chells Grove, where the pair's bodies were discovered after concerns were raised for their welfare.

A police van was also parked near the head of the cul-de-sac as forensic inquiries continued at the scene.

One resident leaving the street said police had initially informed local people that a serious incident had taken place in the street.

The neighbour, who declined to give her name, told reporters: "We saw her (Ms Walsh) around with her little baby but she kept herself to herself to be honest.

"It was really surprising when I heard what had happened because I have not heard or seen anything happening at the house before.

"It was yesterday morning we saw the police arrive at about 10 o'clock - they told us there had been a serious incident and we found out on the news what had happened."

The man being questioned in connection with the deaths was detained in the Dudley area of the West Midlands at around 5.15pm yesterday.
