Disabled woman fights off muggers

A scooter user headbutted a teenage mugger after he tried to rob her as she drove her mobility scooter.

The woman, aged 49, was ambushed by three youths as she drove to her home in Barnstaple, Devon on 25 March. As they tipped over the scooter and started kicking her, she managed to butt one of them, knocking him to the floor. All three then fled empty-handed. She was treated in hospital for head and stomach injuries and a pre-existing condition. The victim, who does not wish to be named, has been left housebound as her scooter was damaged beyond repair.
