The former chairman of Cleveland Police Authority has been charged with perverting the course of justice.

Dave McLuckie, from Stokesley in North Yorkshire, was arrested by officers from Operation Sacristy, an investigation into alleged corruption at the police authority.

He has been bailed to appear at Newcastle Magistrates' Court on Friday November 30.

Cleveland Police said no further information about the arrest or the charge will be released before his appearance at court.

Mr McLuckie, a Redcar and Cleveland councillor, resigned as chairman of the authority when the probe began but denied any wrongdoing.

Operation Sacristy relates to a number of individuals, past and present, from the police authority.
