An 80-year-old man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of his elderly wife.
Peter Beaver of Sherfield Avenue, Leigh Park, Havant, Hampshire, is accused of killing 81-year-old Annie Beaver at their home on Saturday.
Appearing at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court this morning, he spoke only to confirm his date of birth and address
Beaver, dressed in white shirt, blue v-neck jumper and black coat, was remanded in custody and the case was adjourned until Wednesday when it will be heard at Winchester Crown Court and he will appear by videolink from prison.
Police were called to the address shortly after 6am and found the body of Mrs Beaver, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second man aged 55, who was also arrested on suspicion of murder, was released from police custody with no further action.
A post-mortem examination took place on Saturday to determine the cause of Mrs Beaver's death, but police have said they were not in a position to confirm it due to "ongoing inquiries".
