Police are hunting for a thief who swallowed a pair of diamond earrings during a raid on a Hull jewellers.

The suspect allegedly stole more than £13,000 of jewellery from a Hugh Rice shop in the city's centre on 23 December.

He walked off wearing a yellow 18 carat gold diamond ring and a platinum diamond ring on his fingers just before 5pm.

Detectives believe he also swallowed a pair of white gold earrings and a pair of 18 carat white gold diamond earrings.

The suspect, pictured on CCTV footage, was described as black, and estimated to be 30 years old, 5ft 5ins tall, slim, with a shaven head.

He spoke with a southern accent and was wearing a dark grey jacket with a furry hood, a long-sleeved blue top, blue jeans and light grey trainers.

“We are looking for this suspect in connection with the theft of thousands of pounds worth of jewellery from a city centre jewellers in Hull,” said a spokesperson for Humberside Police.

“It happened at the shop in the St Stephens Centre on Ferensway on Monday 23 December just before 5pm.

“More than £13,000 worth of items was stolen including a pair of 18 carat white gold diamond earrings, a pair of white gold earrings, a yellow 18 carat gold diamond ring, and a platinum diamond ring.

“He put the rings on his fingers and it’s thought he swallowed the earrings before leaving the store. No one was hurt during the incident.

“Did you see anything? Do you know the man?”
