Met Police release footage of jogger pushing woman into oncoming traffic in Putney

Police have released footage of the moment a jogger appeared to push a woman in front of a London bus.

The woman was crossing Putney Bridge towards a nearby Tube station as the man ran in the other direction at around 7.40am on 5 May.

CCTV captured from the back of a passing bus appears to show the jogger shoving the woman to his right with both hands, causing her to fall head-first into the road.

Police are appealing for information on the incident on 5 May (Metropolitan Police)

An approaching bus swerved and narrowly missed the 33-year-old pedestrian, who was left with minor injuries.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said the bus stopped and passengers on board rushed to the victim’s aid.

She was still recovering around 15 minutes later, when the same jogger returned across the bridge.

“The victim tried to speak to him but he did not acknowledge her and carried on jogging,” a police spokesperson added.

Sergeant Matt Knowles, the investigating officer from Putney Safer Neighbourhood Team, said the speed of the bus driver’s reaction saved the woman’s life.

“The victim was put in extreme danger when she was knocked into the road,” he added. “It was only due to the superb quick reactions of the bus driver that she was not hit by the vehicle.

“We are keen to speak to the jogger in the CCTV about what happened that morning. We would urge him or anyone who recognises him to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

The jogger is described as a white, in his early mid 30s, with brown eyes and short brown hair. He was wearing a light grey t-shirt and dark blue shorts.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses to the incident or anyone who recognises the jogger in the CCTV to get in touch by contacting Putney Safer Neighbourhood Team on 020 8785 8874, calling 101 or tweeting @MetCC.

Information can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online.
