A 44-year-old man has been gang raped and robbed near Manchester Piccadilly railway station.

Police said the victim was attacked in Bloom Street and that officers were called shortly after 4am today.

“Two men aged 18 and one man aged 21 have been arrested on suspicion of rape and robbery,” a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said.

“They remain in police custody for questioning. Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”

Photos showed a pedestrianised area in Piccadilly Place cordoned off this morning, with officers stationed around a white forensics tent.

It comes as police continue to appeal for witnesses to another rape in Rochdale.

A 21-year-old man was followed out of a bar in the early hours of Saturday morning and attacked in a public park.

Anyone with information on that attack is urged to contact Greater Manchester Police’s serious sexual offences unit on 0161 856 1911 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
