Man found dead in Willenhall house is named

Police investigating the murder of an elderly man who was found dead in a house have released his name.

The body of William Davis, 92, was found at a house in Hobley Street, Willenhall, at around 6.30pm on Sunday after paramedics were called to the premises.

West Midlands Police said that despite the best efforts of medical staff he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination has yet to take place to determine the exact cause of his death.

Detective Inspector Gary Plant, who is leading the investigation, said: "We are still in the very early stages of our investigation, however the initial enquiries that have been made at the scene give us cause to treat this elderly man's death as suspicious.

"A team of officers will be operating in the community to speak to neighbours and residents who may have information to help our investigation, whilst local police will also be on hand to offer support and reassurance.

"We understand that this incident is likely to cause shock and upset in the community and we want to reassure people that we will be painstakingly working at the scene to determine exactly what has happened.

"We urge anyone who has information to come forward at the earliest opportunity."

The house and the area around Hobley Street and Fisher Street have been cordoned off while police make inquiries at the scene and conduct forensic investigations.

Officers will be in the area throughout the day making inquiries as part of the investigation, and local neighbourhood officers will be patrolling the area to offer reassurance to concerned residents.
