A man has been arrested after he allegedly hid drugs in a sweet packet that his daughter then took to school.

The wrap of cocaine is believed to have been found in a packet of Haribo sweets the 10-year-old girl took to Southdown Junior School in Newhaven, East Sussex, The Sun reported.

At the end of school pupils were discussing their possessions with classmates and the drug was discovered.

Police raided the family's home in Newhaven last week and found what is believed to be cocaine and cannabis.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: "A 31-year old man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a controlled substance with intent to supply.

"Officers found a quantity of white and brown powder, and a quantity of what is believed to be herbal cannabis at the Newhaven address.

"The warrant was carried out after a 10-year-old girl was found in possession of a suspicious white substance at a Newhaven school on April 27.

"The substance was seized and police have been working closely with the school to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident."

The man has been released police bail until August 18 while the investigation continues.
