Man held over hit-and-run death of six-year-old boy
A man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of causing the death by dangerous driving of six-year-old Owen Wightman.
The 21-year-old from Huddersfield was arrested by West Yorkshire Police three days after Owen was hit by a car and killed. He was out playing close to his home in Wakefield with a friend. The driver of the car failed to stop at the scene.
A police officer read a statement in tribute to Owen from his parents, Joanne, 33, and Neil, 31. "He was a perfect little man who was taken from us," it said. "He walked into a room and lit it up."
