A man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of another man, who died following an assault in a city centre street.

Karl Wayte, 23, appeared at Derby and South Derbyshire Magistrates' Court charged with murder.

Richard Ziemacki, from Chaddesden, Derby, died after being attacked outside Greggs on Derby's Cornmarket in the early hours of Sunday.

Wayte was remanded into custody to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday.

A second man arrested in connection with the incident is continuing to be questioned on suspicion of assault, a Derbyshire Police spokeswoman said.
