A 35-year-old man appeared in court on Monday accused of trying to kill a nurse who was found alive in the boot of her car after being missing for more than a week.

Justice Ngema appeared at Linlithgow Sheriff Court in Scotland charged with the attempted murder of Magdeline Makola.

Ngema, who is originally from South Africa but now lives in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, made no plea during the hearing, the Press Association reported.

Makola, 38, also from South Africa, had not been seen since December 15 when she left the car park of an Edinburgh hospital where she works as a nurse.

She was found by police last Friday, locked in the boot of her car and suffering from minor injuries.

Ngema was remanded in custody and is due back in court on 6 January.
