A man has been viciously stabbed by two masked men as he sat with his girlfriend on a park bench in north London.

The 24-year-old man, who has not been named, and his 21-year-old girlfriend were approached by two men at around 6pm on Wednesday night in Downhill Park Road, Haringey.

The two men, described as being in their mid-twenties, black and wearing scarves wrapped across their faces, demanded the man’s phone.

When he refused, and the couple attempted to move away, the pair began stabbing him in the back.

He was treated by London Ambulance Service and taken to hospital, where he is now in a serious but stable condition, the Met police confirmed in a statement.

His girlfriend was also injured in the attack, sustaining a cut hand, but her injuries are not believed to be serious.

Anyone with information is asked to contact detective at Haringey borough on 101.

You can also contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you do not want to give your name.
