Megrahi web dossier 'will prove innocence'

Saturday 19 September 2009 00:00 BST

A 300-page dossier intended to prove the innocence of the Lockerbie bomber, Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi,was posted online yesterday.

The former Libyan intelligence officer released information “which he hopes will establish his innocence” on the website megrahimystory.net, his Scottish lawyer Tony Kelly said.

Megrahi, who had been sentenced to life imprisonment on 270 counts of murder for the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, was released from a Scottish jail on 20 August on compassionate grounds after medical advice said the 57-year-old prisoner was likely to die within three months from spreading prostate cancer.

He is apparently now in hospital in Tripoli. Scotland’s Lord Advocate, Elish Angiolini, said she “deplored” Megrahi’s attempt to challenge his conviction through “selective publication” after he had abandoned his appeal.
