Two men who tried to rob a Gloucestershire taxi driver after threatening to poison him with a syringe are being hunted by police.

The driver collected two men from the Bond Street area of central Bristol in the early hours of Sunday.

He asked for payment in advance and drove them to the Lloyds TSB cash point in Stapleton Road at the junction with St Marks Road, Easton.

One man grabbed the driver, pushed a syringe into his neck and demanded his money, saying he would poison him if he did not do as he was told.

As the male counted to 10, the driver deliberately lurched the car forward causing his assailant to let go. Both men then jumped out of the taxi and ran off empty handed.

Both men are described as white and in their late 20s and early 30s.

Anyone with information should call Staple Hill police station on 0845 456 7000.
