Parents have spoken of their "disgust" after the arrest of a female nursery worker in connection with the distribution of indecent images of children. The 39-year-old woman, from Plymouth, was being held after raids on her home and at the city's Little Teds nursery.

The nursery was closed yesterday to allow Devon and Cornwall Police to conduct investigations, and the woman remained in custody last night. Plymouth City Council's children's services department is working with the police.

The nursery and the woman's home were searched early yesterday morning after police received a tip-off at 9pm on Monday and officers arrested the woman three hours later.

A police spokesman said: "Items have been seized in connection with the ongoing inquiry and will be subject to further examination. The nursery will be closed while police carry out their inquiries. Police will keep parents of any children who attend the nursery updated as to the progress of the inquiry."

Officers have refused to confirm whether the alleged images involved children at the nursery.
