Police have appealed for information in their hunt for a balaclava-clad man who tried to abduct a 10-year-old boy in Bury, Greater Manchester.

The man placed his hand on the boy's shoulder as he walked home along Redvales Road at 4pm on Wednesday 23 December, but the boy was able to break free and run home.

He is described as being around 6ft 2in tall, wearing black clothes, black gloves and a balaclava.

Detective Sergeant Jamie Pearson said: “Clearly this was very upsetting for the boy and the community will be understandably concerned. We have searched the area and will continue to patrol the area but would ask people in the area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to the police so we can respond appropriately.

“If anyone was in the area at the time and may have seen the encounter I would urge you to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
