Police have launched a murder investigation at a pub in north London after a man was found dead and a woman was left with life-threatening injuries.

The man, thought to be in his mid-30s, was pronounced dead in the flat above the Bill Nicholson pub in Tottenham after police and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene on Wednesday.

The woman, believed to be pregnant, was found in the flat with multiple injuries. Scotland Yard said she was now in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

Neither the man or the woman has been formally identified.

According to a neighbour the woman was six months pregnant, the Evening Standard reported.

A post-mortem for the man is yet to take place but some people have said they believe he was stabbed.

Dogan Karkas, a delivery driver, said: “I’ve heard someone got stabbed and has been there for a few days.”

One man, who was “shocked” by the incident, said: “Someone that lives there said the man suffered many stab wounds and the lady had her throat cut.”

Wanting to remain anonymous, he added that the couple, believed to be from Bulgaria, were “always arguing”.

The murder investigation is being led by Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Chalmers from the Homocide and Major Crime Command. The Met said it was continuing with enquiries and that no arrests had been made.

“As present, police are not seeking any other person in connection with this incident.”

The pub is named after the former manager of football club Tottenham Hotspur and is located close to White Hart Lane. It is thought to only be open on match days.
