Prison teacher suspended over sex with convicted murderer

A prison teacher has been suspended after she filmed a pornographic movie with a murderer behind bars.

Beverley Van-de-Velde and lifer Richard Francis, 29, captured themselves on camera in a series of graphic poses at Rye Hill prison near Rugby, Warwickshire.

The 59-year-old donned a leather corset, thong and stockings while having sex in the jail's staff room with Francis.

He was convicted of stabbing a man to death at a south London pub in 2002.

Prison bosses are also said to have found bundles of love letters the teacher sent the convict.

The film's first scene is said to show the teacher giggling and blocking the door with a photocopier.

Van-de-Velde, of Leicester, now faces disciplinary procedures and an investigation into how her relationship with Francis developed and went unchecked.

The killer has been removed to isolation and had his privileges withdrawn, a prison source said.

A G4S spokesman at HMP Rye Hill, said: "We can confirm that an individual employed as a teacher by one of the sub-contractors at HMP Rye Hill was escorted from the prison on November 3 2010 due to inappropriate behaviour.

"She is being dealt with through the sub-contractor's disciplinary procedures.

"The prisoner involved has been removed from association whilst we assess the risks associated with this incident."

Van-de-Velde landed the teaching job through her employer Manchester College.

Its spokesman said today: "We have conducted a thorough investigation and we fully intend to take disciplinary action."

The Sun reported that Van-de-Velde fell for Francis two years ago while teaching him media studies and prison documents and an open window could be seen in their sex film.

"From that department he could easily have escaped," a source told the newspaper.
