Puppy killed by intruders in Boxing Day break-in

An eight-week-old puppy was killed by intruders who broke into a house on the night after Christmas, police have said.

Two men broke into the home on Tranter Crescent in Aberlady, East Lothian in the early hours of Friday 26 December.

The family who live in the house were asleep during the attack. The intruders fled after being disturbed by the family, and are being sought by police.

Detective inspector Samantha Ainslie, who is leading the investigation, said: "This was a horrific and cruel incident and it is essential we trace these men as soon as possible.

"In the meantime our enquiries are ongoing and high visibility reassurance patrols are being conducted in the local area."

The break-in is suspected to be an attempted burglary.

One suspect was described as being a white male, about 25 years old, 5ft 9in, of medium build and with a spotty chin and mouth area.

He was wearing a dark hoodie with a light zip and pull chords on the hood, dark tracksuit bottoms and dark shoes or trainers.

The second suspect was described as being a man of similar build and height also wearing dark clothing.
