Teenager held after death of two-year-old

A two-year-old girl died today after suffering head injuries, police said.

A 53-year-old man and 15-year-old boy were arrested after Demi Lee Mahon was admitted to Hope Hospital in Salford on Tuesday afternoon, Greater Manchester Police said.

Demi was later transferred to Pendlebury Children's Hospital, where she died this afternoon.

The two suspects were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of assault and remain in custody for questioning, a force spokesman said.

Detectives are still trying to establish how Demi, of Liverpool Road, Salford, was hurt.

Today, they appealed for information.

Police believe she may have been taken to a park on Nelson Street, Eccles, between 2.30pm and 4.30pm on Tuesday.

A post mortem examination is due to be conducted tomorrow.
