Two 16-year-old boys were charged today over a hit-and-run collision which killed a 62-year-old pedestrian.

Thomas Drane suffered multiple injuries when he was hit by a stolen black Vauxhall Vectra in Gorton, Greater Manchester. The victim, of Lowther Avenue, Gorton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle was found abandoned a short time later nearby following the incident in Mount Road on 7 April.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "A 16-year-old boy is charged with causing death by dangerous driving and a second 16-year-old boy is charged with aggravated taking of a motor vehicle without consent.

"Two 17-year-old girls arrested in connection with the incident have been eliminated from police inquiries."

The two youths, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will appear at Manchester City Magistrates' Court on 30 July, the spokesman added.
