Three prisoners have been charged with the attempted murder of a Serbian war criminal inside a high-security British prison.

Radislav Krstic, a former general in the Bosnian Serb Army and the first person to be convicted of genocide over the 1995 Srebrenica massacre, was attacked in Wakefield Prison in West Yorkshire on May 7.

Indrit Krasniqi, 23, Iliyas Khalid, 24, and Quam Ogumbiyi, 29, faced charges of attempted murder and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm when they appeared at Leeds Crown Court for a brief plea and case management hearing yesterday.

Krasniqi and Khalid entered not guilty pleas to both charges when they appeared via videolink, but Ogumbiyi did not appear and has not yet entered pleas.

The men are expected to go on trial early next year.
