CCTV footage from an off-licence in Northern Ireland may have just captured the most ham-fisted criminal at work ever.

A robber has been caught on camera holding up a shop in south Belfast.

In the short video the man is seen dashing into the store and suddenly slipping over, nearly taking out a female shopper in the process.

During the fall his hat and sunglasses slip off his face, revealing his identity. The man quickly gets up and puts his hat on while waving what appears to be a knife at the cashier.

The terrified shop assistant quickly opens the two tills and lets the robber grab the cash while customers look on helplessly.

Despite more or less bungling up the stick up, he miraculously managed to get away with money from the tills.

The incident took place on 15 February at 9.15pm and police are now looking for the man, who is said to be 6ft, slim with dark hair.

On the night of the crime the man was wearing a red fleece with white writing across it, a pair of dark blue jeans, a sheepskin-coloured hat with long ear warmers, and a pair of brown rimmed sunglasses.

“It was raining heavily outside and when the male entered the shop he slipped and fell on the floor with a female customer causing his hat and sunglasses to fall off thus allowing a clear unobstructed view of his face,” said Detective Constable Tracey Blair.

Police are appealing for help and urging anyone with information to either call the police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
