Crossing record
A pounds 40m Italian powerboat, the 222ft Destriero, beat the Blue Riband transatlantic record by more than 21 hours. It left New York on Thursday and passed the finishing point at Bishop's Rock, off Cornwall, at 5.14am yesterday, completing the crossing in 58hr, 34min and four seconds. The catamaran Hoverspeed Great Britain set the previous mark in 1990.
