Director resigns
Dr Masud Hoghughi, 55, the director of Co Durham's Aycliffe Centre for Children, is taking early retirement to be with his ill wife. The centre for disturbed youngsters has faced criticism in the past 12 months over allegations of severe restraining methods. Joseph Elliott, of Streatham, south London, whose acquittal of murder caused controversy about jury verdicts, is a former resident.
