Error delays rape case
The committal for Crown Court trial of the first 12-year-old boy to be charged with rape, made possible after a change to the law last year, has been dropped because of an administrative error. Last month, Isle of Wight magistrates committed the boy to the Crown Court, but it has emerged that they had no such power except on murder or manslaughter charges. The case will now be dealt with by a youth court.
