Firefighter cleared

A firefighter accused of making hoax phone calls to his station to earn extra call-out fees was cleared. Christopher McDermott, 30, of Rugeley, told Staffordshire Crown Court he was earning up to pounds 400 a week as a contract miner and did not need extra cash.
