Firefighter killed in river crash
A part-time firefighter with Kelso fire brigade was killed when a fire engine answering an emergency call crashed through the parapet of a bridge and fell 60 feet into the river Tweed, Borders. Ian Bruce, 37, a butcher from Kelso, was trapped in the cab.
Five crew members scrambled to safety. One suffered serious head injuries and four others suffered minor injuries and hypothermia.
