Frontline police

Northumbria police is putting more of its 3,600 officers into 'frontline policing', rather than desk jobs. It is replacing its six divisions and 22 sub-divisions with 15 command units, each with about 170 officers. The present total of 62 chief superintendents and superintendents will be cut by a third.
