Greenpeace in bridge protest
Protesters delayed work on a second bridge over the River Severn by 12 hours yesterday by chaining themselves to a concrete foundation, Greenpeace claimed.
The five protesters, who tried to prevent builders lifting a 1,500- tonne support into place, were freed by construction staff with boltcutters. However, a spokesman for the construction firm, Laing Ltd, denied that the protest had blocked the laying of the support, saying the delay was caused by 'other factors'.
