An abuse victim who apologised after making false claims against Lord McAlpine will co-operate with police and judicial investigations into alleged failures in the North Wales children's homes inquiries.

There was concern over the welfare of Steven Messham after he posted a series of tweets suggesting he was struggling to cope with the pressures of finding himself at the centre of a media storm surrounding the unfounded allegations he made on Newsnight. He has said the furore made him feel like the abuse was going on “all over again”.

But he remains determined to co-operate with the official inquiries. “We have a police-led inquiry and a judicial inquiry about to start and Mr Messham will talk to both,” said solicitor Michael Gray. Mr Messham believes there were flaws in the original child abuse inquiry presided over by Sir Ronald Waterhouse.
