Dramatic bridge demolition photo scoops top place in civil engineer photography competition
Wednesday 19 June 2013
This stunning photo of a bridge demolition on the M1 has won the first prize of £100 in Picture This 2013 - the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) East of England annual photography competition.
The photograph was taken by Terry Higginson, who works for the Costain Carillion Joint Venture to improve junctions 10-13 of the M1. He also managed another first in the history of the competition - one of his other photos of the same scene was named joint runner up.
One of the judges, Daniel Jones, said the picture is an "outstanding image which looks like a scene from a sci-fi blockbuster. The lighting, exposure and composition are all perfect. This is an atmospheric picture that I would be delighted with if I had taken it."
