Alfie Meadows has been charged with violent disorder

A student who suffered severe head injuries during clashes with police during a demonstration against the rise in university tuition fees was "intent" on confrontation, a court heard yesterday.

Alfie Meadows, 21, of Brixton, south London, was "looking for it" before any containment was imposed by police during the demonstration on 9 December 2010, Kingston Upon Thames Crown Court was told. Mr Meadows and four other men all deny violent disorder.

The case continues.
