LORD PALUMBO, the former Arts Council chairman, has been accused of withholding funds from a multi- million pound family trust by his son and eldest daughter from his first marriage, according to the Mail on Sunday. James and Annabella Palumbo have issued a High Court writ against their father to stop the three children from his second marriage sharing the income from the trust. The paper says that Lord Palumbo will contest the case.

Members of the IRA gang who bombed the Baltic Exchange in London two years ago are unlikely to come to justice because a middle- aged couple, who could identify two of them, have withdrawn their evidence after telephone death threats, according to the Sunday Times. Two terrorist suspects are currently in jail in Northern Ireland.

A junior hospital doctor has died after working an 86- hour-week in an NHS hospital, the Observer reports. Officially, the death of Dr Alan Massie, 27, remains a mystery but his parents are convinced it was caused by working long hours at Warrington District General Hospital, Cheshire.

A Church of England bishop will allow an Anglican clergyman to voice his protest at the 'heresy' of female ordination during the service to ordain London's first women priests next Saturday. The Sunday Telegraph reports that the Rt Rev Graham Dow, Area Bishop of Willesden, will allow the Rev Paul Williamson to make a three- minute statement.
