An award-winning cosmetic dentist who worked with celebrities and famous athletes has died suddenly at the age of 39.

Jamie Newlands, a married father of one, treated patients such as actor Robert Carlyle, Texas singer Sharleen Spiteri and Paolo Nutini at his multi-million pound Berkeley Clinic in Glasgow's West End.

The cause of his death is not yet known.

Police discovered his body in countryside outside the city after he was reported missing on Friday evening, according to the Scottish Sun.

A Police Scotland statement provided to The Independent read: “Around 20.45 on Friday 28th July the body of a 39-year-old man was found by officers on Greenfield Hill on Muir Road in Eaglesham.

“There would appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding this death and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

Friends and colleagues posted tributes to the former DJ on social media.

Finbar Bryson wrote: “Thoughts and prayers are with all at The Berkeley. God bless you guys.”

Chris Green said: “Everyone that know you spoke so highly of you. The happiest I’d seen you was the day you announced you where going to be a dad [sic].”

Abhishek Singh wrote: “Rest in peace, Jamie Newlands. Inspiring colleague and a gentleman.”

Hew Morrison posted: “Jamie, you were one in a million. Kind, generous, super-intelligent and, above all else, a proper gent. I always looked up to you. So sad. My thoughts are with your family. Rest in peace, mate.”

Newlands, dubbed Scotland’s dentist to the stars, won Scotland’s Best Young Dentist in 2009 and Best Dentist award in 2010.

He is survived by his wife, Amy, and their baby daughter.
