Colleagues yesterday paid tribute to a serviceman killed on patrol near the main British base in southern Afghanistan. The Ministry of Defence named Senior Aircraftsman Marcin Wojtak, 24, from 34 Squadron Royal Air Force Regiment, who died in a blast near the perimeter of Camp Bastion, Helmand province, on Thursday. The Leicester-born airman was deployed to the base last month.

His colleague, Corporal Dave Hayden, described him as "the big teddy bear who loved to help whatever the problem".
