A "man crèche" for exhausted shoppers has been opened in anticipation of the gruelling festive season.

The special room, which features a pool table, darts, newspapers and sofas, has opened in Wales to give tired buyers a place of respite, according to ITV.

Although posters specificially market it as a "man crèche", organisers said it had also been called a "nan crèche" and "lady crèche", depending on who was in need of a visit.

Yet it appeared many in Carmarthen, where the room is based, agreed with the old stereotype of women preferring shopping to men.

One woman talking to ITV said: "Even though they say they're tolerant of us women shopping, they're not.

"They get huffing and puffing and 'why do you have to buy that?'"

Another man told ITV that he did not enjoy shopping.

"I'd rather go and sit and have a chat with my mates, and a game of darts, and a beer if they've got one," he said.

The initiative is sponsored by the regional chamber of commerce and the Oreknot Creative Hub.

It was advertised as "offering time out to all weary men folk out there."

The room also features video games, jenga, do-it-yourself christmas gifts, T-shirt design and a "selection of fine teas."

Last year, a survey by a retailer claimed to show that most men do all their Christmas shopping in under three hours, the Daily Mail reported.
