An elderly man managed to drive onto the tram tracks of Manchester’s Victoria Station on Sunday after he apparently became “distracted” by a group of young women.

Greater Manchester Police were alerted to reports that an elderly man had driven his Nissan Note car onto the tracks shortly after 1:30am on Sunday morning.

It took police nearly an hour to recover the man’s car from the tracks. The elderly man, reportedly 92-years-old, was picked up by his son.

A police spokesperson said the pensioner made a “passing comment to officers that he had been distracted by a group of young ladies” before he drove onto the tracks.

It is not the first time a pensioner has become stuck on the tram tracks.

Just last week a car drove onto the tracks at one of Manchester Piccadilly Station’s platforms at around 3:00am. A picture of the Volkswagen Gold GTI taken at the time shows the car on the tracks, its wing-mirrors at the same height as the platform and severe damage to the bonnet on the left hand side of the car.

The driver is believed to have been chased by police at the time of the incident, the Manchester Evening News reported.

In January 2014, a 78-year-old woman managed to drive her red V6 Jaguar onto the tracks at Holt Town Metrolink station in Bradford, halting services between Ashton-under-Lyne and Manchester, according to police.
