A passing stag party helped out the police after one of their trucks got stuck in the mud on the Norfolk Broads.

Norfolk Police thanked the 16-strong group after they freed the truck, which had been towing the Broadsbeat patrol boat, from the mud.

They posted pictures of the stag party helping during their "moment of need" on Instagram, saying they "all mucked in to help".

One member of the stag party, Mark Churms, said the group was sailing from Wroxham towards Horning on Saturday morning when they saw the police truck and trailer stuck in the mud.

He told the Eastern Daily Press: "We moored the two boats and everyone gave them a hand to get them out.

"We pushed the car and then pulled the trailer with boat on it across the grass."

Mr Churms uploaded a picture of the stag-party posing for a photograph alongside the officers.

"They were obviously slightly embarrassed," he added.
