Police and the security services have drawn up plans to deal with a "Mumbai-style" armed terrorist attack on Parliament lasting for days.

MPs and peers have been told that they will not get special protection. Instead everyone working in the House of Commons and Lords has been advised to try to escape as fast as possible – even if they risk running into terrorists. Trying to hide in offices or constructing makeshift barricades to stop the attackers is more dangerous, they have been warned.
