Seven suspects are being questioned after a huge £15m heroin haul hidden in a consignment of Turkish ceramic tiles was seized.

Customs officers arrested five men and two women after the load was tracked from Istanbul, in Turkey, through Felixstowe port and on to addresses in Leeds and Barnsley.

In all, 170 kilos of the class A drug were found.

Chris Harrison, assistant chief investigation officer in charge of the operation in Leeds, said: "We are determined to continue rooting out criminal organisations responsible for the international trafficking of huge quantities of class A drugs."

It is the second large batch uncovered by UK customs in the past eight days.

Last Friday, wraps of heroin shaped like almonds and placed in realistic looking packets were found at Southampton docks.

Three Pakistani nationals were arrested in east London.
