Two people have died in a house fire in Lincolnshire, police have said.

The fire on Tower Lane in Spalding started just after midnight on Sunday morning, when fire services were called to the scene.

Six engines were sent to the house from Spalding and surrounding towns.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire police said: “Sadly, we can confirm that there have been two fatalities”, but did not give further information.

Thirteen hours after being called to the scene, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue report firefighters were still working to extinguish the flames, though the operation had been scaled down to one pump and an aerial ladder, with specialist teams in attendance “to ensure the safety of the building.”

Police said “a joint fire service and police investigation is underway”.
