Three-year-old girl Mayah Shazad dies in Luton bus collision

The toddler was hit in the 'very busy' Bury Park area

A three-year-old girl has died after being hit by a bus in Luton.

Bedfordshire Police said toddler Mayah Shazad was hit by the bus in Dunstable Road, Bury Park, at around 3.45pm on Friday.

In a statement, the force said: "Obviously this tragedy, which took place at a very busy time in a busy area, was extremely distressing for many people who witnessed it or arrived at the scene shortly afterwards to assist.

"The girl's family are being supported by family liaison officers who are keeping them in touch with developments. Our condolences are with them at this time."

The road was shut for more than four hours as police investigated the scene. Buses are currently being re-routed down Dallow Road and Hatters Way instead.

The driver was questioned as "a matter of routine".

The force is appealing for any witnesses to contact Bedfordshire Police control room on 101 with any information.
